Copy trading is the practice of mirroring the orders of one trading account ("leader") into one or more other trading accounts ("followers") automatically. When the leader buys, every follower buys. When the leader closes, every follower closes. The size and risk profile per follower can be configured independently. The premise is simple - if a strategy works in one account, it can run in many without manual repetition.
A copy-trading platform connects to the leader's broker via API and listens for fills. When a fill is detected - say, "long 4 ES at market" - the platform broadcasts a corresponding order to each connected follower account, applying any per-follower scaling rules. Good systems do this in milliseconds; bad systems poll every few seconds and miss fills entirely. Tradecopia uses direct broker APIs and broadcasts in real time.
